As my news update seemed to be well received last Friday please find details of whats currently going on at the club, (with a comment or two):

The revolving door is still working as ALFRETON TOWN are now chasing PAUL ROBINSON. A seven day notice was received last Friday. It was decided after Saturdays game to let them talk to him now as it is neccessary for the club to know what his intentions are asap as we have an important FAT game on Saturday to plan for.

Also Gary S will move to Hucknall when his months loan period ends.

If Paul moves on the only player still registered from the Nottingham area will be the Manager himself.

The side last Saturday was very much a 'local' team with only Nagington and Sanders our long distance travellers and that was a relative short trip from Stoke. Surprising how much that has changed in the last few weeks.

The Youth Team are in action on Monday evening when they continue their defence of the BCFA Youth Cup, they are playing Nuneaton Griff at Walsall Wood, ko 7.45pm

The lads are also in action on Friday night when they travel to play Nuneaton Borough which will be played at Nuneaton Griff's ground. The club hope to have two new players in for this game as two seven days notices are up and two very promising players will become Pitmen.I am sure that they will both be signing UniBond forms as one of the players has already played at Conference level.

The Rocester match on Tuesday will see a much changed squad as the squad can ill afford anymore injuries with Guiseley visiting Keys Park next Saturday. Chad Sheppard will play as he is cup tied for Saturday and Alan Nagington will also start if he has no reaction to his half an hour on the pitch against Stamford. Manager Phil Starbuck is hoping that Chris Adam will be taking some part in the game. Tom Ward will probably be kept back for Saturday.

Jamie March is now hoping to be in contention for selection in February 2008.

Guiseley matchwill be normal match prices and if a replay is required it will be played on Tuesday 6th November.

Despite the local feel to the side, it was interesting to note that we had playing on Saturday:-

2 Irishmen
1 Aussie
1 AMerican
1 Portuguese
1 representative of Monseratt (or whoever it was)

By my reckoning of the starting 11 , only 5 were English qualified - how times are changing!

Perton, I was referring to the players home address's in my news item but I take your point, it is not as local as I first thought when you list it your way. Who's the American or is that an attempt of a pun with reference to Chad?

Further to the above 8 of the starting line up were born in England as Wayne Dyer is a born and bred Brummie (God's Children), Daniel Wells was born in Sidcup, Kent and there is no American in the team.

Wayne qualified for Monterresat I believe by means of his grandparents place of birth.

I thought Super Mario was an Angolan international (though it was a Portuguese colony, of course).

He is, I believe, Angolan by birth, MikeM.

I remember Chalkie White's programme notes last season saying Chad Sheppard was from the USA.
Maybe his humour was a little more subtle than we realised?

Losing Robbo will be a massive blow, our defence struggles at the best of times so losing him will cause more problems. We had a good result on Saturday but the defensive frailties still loomed during the game! PS needs to concentrate on bringing in defenders.

It concerns me that numerous quality players are slipping through the clubs fingers, is this an indication of the clubs lack of ambition that quality players are not put on contract. I dont mean that all players should be contracted but Robbo's quality has been evident since pre-season and if the club wishes to move forward they need to keep players like him!!

This is a very difficult one for the club and, in particular for the manager.
It is very easy to lock up all your playing budget resources into contracts and then find that as a result of injuries, loss of form etc. there are no resources left to bring in new faces to freshen up the squad. (We have been down that route before)!
The converse of this is the 'revolving door' policy that people have referred to, where any interested club can put in 7 days notice and undo much of the team building work that the exasperated manager has done or is doing.
The answer, as always, is somewhere in the middle and that has to be a judgement call for the clubs financiers.

Well done then to whoever made the decision to look actively to sign local players, as the increasing price of travel and the extra stress it gives to body and mind would do something to explain both the number of players leaving and the injury situation. We are no doubt penalised by being on the edge of this league's catchment area and would be to some lesser extent in the south section, but you don't have to be too old to know what a breeding ground for fine footballers the west midlands is.

You have obviously been on holiday as the subject has been well discussed over the last week so it is now a 'dead' subject.

Glyn
thanks for your reply, the steam was beginning to rise until I read your reply which covered the matter quite simply.

MikeM
I would like to think that it was just the travelling which was the reason players had left the club but it is more to do with £/s/d (that's old money for pounds, shillings and pence)
We have over a million people living less than an hours drive from Keys Park so there must be some players who have not yet been 'discovered'.

Thank you Rod, I haven't been on holiday I have been caring for my 12 week old son who has been ill, obviously I haven't had the time to read through every single thread over the last week so I apologise for raising your blood pressure but if you could point me in the direction of the 'dead' subject thread maybe I could read this for myself and not bother you again!

Sorry did not mean to offend you, I hope your son is getting better. I more that most will know the pain and concern that you and your wife/partner would have been feeling as my first child was in an incubator for weeks when first born and it was nearly two months before we could give him a proper cuddle. He is now 31 years old now and I still dont cuddle him!

I cannot find the thread now but the main point of my original reply to the subject was that the Manager and the MD would like to put a number of players on a contract but the Chairman does not want anymore players on contract so unfortunately that is it in a nutshell.

They must be back in school in Stafford.cracking reply Andy Pipkin unfortunately it will go straight over their heads.
