When I left the ground yesterday there were a few Hednesford supporters who said we were very lucky but a win is a win. I couldn't agree with them. We played well in the second half and although we didn't play well in the first half we still had a number of chances. Ross had two good chances in the first and Wayne Dyer had one cleared off the line, second half we were much the better team and ran out deserved winners in the end.
Mario's two goals, especially the first, were special. I don't think anyone else on the pitch would have the quality to score the first one, it was an excellent volley guided into the net from Wayne Dyer's cross. The second was also an excellent strike and the third was mightily lucky with the deflection, but it was the luck that we so desperately need and deserve at this moment in time.
I think people also need to understand that we have players like Marshall and Adams who are carrying injuries week in week out and putting their bodies on the line for the club. Ross Dyer quite clearly was struggling fir fitness in the second half but he also carried on heriocally, and was a constant threat to the visitors all afternoon. There is a high turnover of players at the moment due to injuries, that's not an excuse that's a fact. Having so many players out injured means that the manager has had to find players out of nowhere to come in and do a job at least until the regulars are fit again.
Credit then must go to the lads today, and I'd like to see positive messages from the fans that went to the game yesterday because the players deserve them.
I was very angry after the Rushall game, but as a fan all I expect is 100% effort. I can accept poor performances as long as the effort is there, but at Rushall there was nothing. Yesterday was totally different, so lets give the players and the manager the credit they deserve for yesterday's performance and result.

I agree 100% with Lee's assessment of the Willenhall match, the longer it went on, the better we played - not all in the air, either. Well done to all concerned, especially to those carrying injuries - at least you've got a week off now!!

I thought that we were below par in the first half, probably as a result of the injuries to players that would have been playing but also to the young stalwarts that played yesterday, even though carrying injuries that should have been rested, if there had been any choice! Well done Masha and the two Ross's!
I thought we played much better in the second half, though and had much more of the ball. Mario's two goals were exceptional, particularly the first, a 'Match of the Day' volley, if I have ever seen one!
My one concern was that we did not make too many clear cut chances against a pretty ordinary Willenhall Town side. The spectacular goals that Mario scored and the 'flukey' deflection for the third goal for Dovey, do not come along too regularly. I think we need to see a few more six yard box type chances, to be more comfortable in producing the League results that we will need to stand a chance of making the play offs.
Anyway, the players and the team management have a chance of a few days without a match now to recharge the batteries and to try to get some of the injured players back into contention. We have been in a really difficult few weeks with injuries and have unfortunately, in that period, made an early exit from the FA Cup but at least we are still involved in the 'Premier' non-league competition and are only 7 points off the play off places.
Hopefully, Phil will continue to strengthen the squad and when he has got his full squad fit and available for selection, begin an immediate and sustained challenge in the League, as we desperately need to make those play-off places this season!

Can anyone please advise when the draw for the next round is or has it already been pre drawn?

When do Stafford come in because that person is getting annoying and I would like us the whip that Conference 'pub'team who are destined for relegation

Draw on Monday I believe.

Thought yesterday was a classic game of 2 halves. First half we were clueless and lacked any pattern. Second half we just got stuck in and over -ran a poor WIllenhall side.

Still worried about the defence - we could easily have conceded 3 oin the first half - everyone had the jitters, but Adams held us together.

Mario revelled in his free-roaming role and took his goals superbly. A good solid win, but next Saturday will be tough against a free-scoring Stamford

The Result Today

Positive mesages all the way it's the only thing that's going to get the team back on track and instill that bit of confidence they need to have a go. The way things have been going lateley players look frightened to play because of the stick they get if they try something and it doesn't come off.

England Rugby a prime example.

We seem to have been trying to play safe all the time and it's not working you have to have the belief that you can try things, life is a about risk, you only have to watch Styche play even he was warming up yesterday kicking a ball around.

Come on lads and that includes you too PS "No Fear", have the confidence to have a go.

Come on Hednesford.........:clap2:

Could I suggest, however, that we stop the maddening tactic of having everyone back to defend corners. It creates confusion and we have no 'out-ball'. Can someone who knows about tactics (presumably they will have some sort of badge) explain what we might be seeking to achieve as it is doing my head in!

keep 3 up front, they will need to put men back to cover..:)

i think keeping 3 up front is taking a risk but at least two should surely be on the half way line as then the attacking team need to keep 3 back. that tactic clears the area of at least 5 players and means marking is technically more straight forward.

anyway, well done to Starbuck and the team for what sounds like a decent win, Mario showing his class and the team showing it does have the desire and heart to win tricky away matches. I couldnt make the game on Saturday, i was at Man City watching the Blues in an alledgedly 'proper' game of football. The group of people I was with were given a police escort by around 40 coppers with dolt blues fans trying to cause trouble all the way to Manchester station. give me Buxton away or Stamford at home anyday of the week. Up the Pitmen!
