genius or lucky toe-poke?
:D
(I'm trying in vain to find the "Yes Post a Poll" icon but can't - help, Steve! - so you'll just have to reply verbally on this one!)
Hallo

Lucky toe-poke, but not as good as this young (future????) England international.

I think you'll find opinion will split along the lines of Mario Pedro v Stuart Lake supporters. Personally I've thought for 18 months or so that Messi is the most exciting talent in world football ahead even of Kaka and Ronaldo.

Defenders should have brought him down.
Reminds me of a goal my Welsh team conceded two seasons ago, striker-cum-winger sets off from the half-way line with our coach shouting (as was his wont) "DON'T FOUL, DON'T FOUL" while I'm shouting "FETCH THE BA$TARD!" Needless to say no-one did and he scored costing us two points.

Hallo

That reminds me of an old school British football saying, things that were installed into me as a kid:
"Make sure you get the ball or the player" (mainly the player)
and some others i can remember:
"If in doubt, knock it out"
"Don't let it bounce" (can you tell i was a defender??)
any others????

It would be up there if it wasn't for this:

another lucky toe-poke. Couldn't have done it without the perfectly-weighted return pass from the true genius that is Brian McClair.
You've got to admit though, the Argie commentary was better than Jon Champion's pathetic "... he's done it..."

Messi's goal against Mexico was 'class', Cantona's was 'imperious' but if you want to see genius look at Messi's goal against Getafe, (move over Maradona!)

almost a replica! - though it isn't quite the same without Peter Read and Terry Butcher trailing hopelessly in his wake....
(and as far as I know Messi isn't a drug-taking handballing cheating *******)

As for the "handballing cheating *******" part:

LOL, I'd heard about that but hadn't seen it - he is Maradona's secret love-child isn't he?!
And yeah I know Andy Pipkin (geddit?), I'd spotted that I'd mis-spelt Reidy's name and being the perfectionist that I am, wanted to amend it but as far as I can see this forum won't let you amend a post once someone's replied to it so I just had to hope that no-one would notice
:doh::rolleyes:
