He's started a campaign on talkSPORT tonight for all English Premier League Clubs to make tickets available at £20 so that the less-well-off can afford to get in....

I've just emailed him thus....

Stan

Just one problem with your "£20 in to Premier League" plan....

What then are the lower division clubs and non-league clubs going to be able to charge - most of them are already struggling to make ends meet

I follow TNS in Wales (£7.50 in) and Hednesford Town (who you will know well!), £8.50 in....

but if their fans, many of whom, like me, used to watch top-flight football but no longer have the desire or the money to do so, could get into Liverpool/Villa for £20 they might all disappear?

(BTW, he also said, in the context of it being 5 years since Abramovich took over at Chelski, "literally everything was turned on its head overnight....")

Give him his due, he read it out, though I'm not entirely sure he got my point!!!!

Caller (probably a Man Ure fan but for reasons which will become obvious he wouldn't confirm it) just said that he and his pals all buy their season tickets in the names of their parents and thus get a discount because they are pensioners!!!

Good one (of course, some of us would genuinely qualify for the discount anyway!!!)

:rolleyes::doh:

Spending too much time at TNS Glyn as the terrace price for adults at Keys Park is still £8-00.

You might as well talk to yourself (oh, you were until I posted!!) as the media only want to know about is the Premiership. As much as we love our own clubs we will not attract millions to their radio discussion programmes.

Thanks for putting me right Rod (I need someone to keep an eye on me)

Collymore might as well talk to himself as well, does he really think that Prem clubs which can fill their grounds by charging £28-75 a ticket (I think the latter is not unusual in London?) are really going to sell them for less??

Doug Ellis said years ago he would be as happy with 20000 in Villa Park paying £40 as 40000 paying £20. I made him wrong (not least becasue of all the add-on sales, as well as the atmosphere etc etc etc), but if they can get 40000 at £40 they will, won't they...

Mind you, a Blackburn fan phoned up and said "Hey Stan, do you want us to increase our prices then??"

It would be interesting to know what, if any, effect there has been on the prices and gates at non-league clubs near to those league clubs which have done season-ticket deals, eg Bradford who are again doing them for £130 (? I think?) and others such as Huddersfield who have followed suit....

Listening to Stanley Victor Collymore on talkSPORT Friday night while driving home from my match....

he was waxing lyrical about Cannock, mentioning Hednesford Town and the surrounding villages (Cheslyn Hay, Norton Canes, Penkridge etc), all great publicity for the area on national radio.... came to read out the wikipedia entry

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannock

which names him as Cannock's most famous son, then the bit where it says "Cannock lies to the South of Cannock Chase, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty..."

"Don't I know it" says Stan.

Priceless

Stan Collymore on talkSPORT: "Manchester City fans must be in se... literally in seventh heaven"

Good job you paused to insert the "literally" there Stan!!

Stan Collymore on talkSPORT, selecting his England team with 3 central defenders... "There's madness behind my method"

"... just taking 10 steps back LITERALLY, Gareth Barry goes and collects the ball off his defence....."

Well, I suppose he's right!!!!!

Not entirely sure SVC has his finger on the pulse of his local club....or indeed just how hard it is below league level at present... this evening on talkSPORT....

".... people are going to clubs like Hednesford Town , who you will have heard of though they've hit on hard times recently, and Chasetown.... people are leaving the big clubs and going to the lower league clubs, because:

a) they're accessible and

b) they don't mug you off....

lower league clubs have probably never had it so good...."

...and to prove the point we now have Cammell Larid following Leigh by reverting to amateur status!

Piece in the E&S last night outlining the fact that the Strangers are in trouble now. All players have been asked to take a pay-cut and have been told they can leave if they want. THe players are said to be 'furious' at this development and were due to meet last night to discuss at training.

I can see why they are a bit miffed at this, but everyone's gates are falling, sponsors are feeling the pitch and so are the rest of us. SOme might think they can get fixed up at clubs willing to pay daft money, but there aren't too many clubs in that position now. Interesting times ahead!

Sounds like Briscoe should have stayed at Keys Park to fight for that shirt and show the same attitude as Durrell. Not good moves firstly to Gresley and now this.

I honestly don't know whether Stan Collymore's tongue was in his cheek or not??

"Tonight the Borussia derby, Borussia Dortmund 2, Borussia Moenchengladbach 1...."

Danny Kelly: "They'll be dancing in the streets of Borussia tonight...."

Collymore in the Mirror this morning (15th) on the World Club Championship:
"Man United will be up against some very good opposition, like Al Ahly from Egypt and I am going to stick my neck out and say the Egyptians will be crowned the best club side in the world'
1st Qualifying Round result Saturday Dec 13th; Al Ahly 2 Pachuca 4, thus eliminating his tip from the competition a mere two days before he made his prognostication; even given his devotion to 0-times world champions Liverpool, leading to wishful thinking, it is galling that Channel 5 are paying this moron to fly out too luxury accommodation and co-commentate on the competition for a fee that would probably make our eyes widen.
