Taken from Non-League Daily.....
Phil Starbuck, who quit as manager of UniBond League Premier Division club Hednesford Town in May, is on the verge of joining Coca-Cola League One side Walsall as assistant-manager.
Starbuck (pictured above) has managed the likes of Arnld Town, Leigh RMI and Hucknall Town before joining the Pitmen in May 2006.
Now he is close to joining Walsall as assistant to Jimmy Mullen, who, ironically, was Starbuck`s number two at Leigh.
Mullen (right) had a twenry-year playing career representing Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Cardiff City - captaining all three clubs to promotion during his time.
He has since gone on to become a highly-respected coach and has managed Newport County, Cardiff City, Blackpool, Sligo Rovers and Telford United.
He has also had spells as assistant-manager at Cardiff City, Aberdeen, Burnley and Blackpool.
I was talking to a Walsall fan at the weekend and he reckoned that former Lincoln City boss John Schofield had joined the Saddlers as Assistant but who knows?
John Schofield is down as First Team Coach on the Saddlers website.

.....but a Walsall chat board has some differing views on the matter!!

Makes interesting reading, and as we found out about PS - he may not be an excellent Manager, but he is a good and extremely well qualified coach.
Will he suit a number 2 ?
Would he be prepared to work at Walsall full time and give up the other work he does - ie Christians in Sport and working for the FA?
We will have to wait and see - probably only until July 12th.
Phil had left those positions last or early this year. He went into dealing with youngsters with drug problems which was a very stressful position. I hope that Phil finds a coaching position somewhere as he is an excellent coach although I believe the position at Walsall has already been filled.
We will learn more next Saturday when the Saddlers send their First Team to Keys Park.
