Sorry for the intrusion folks, but just to update all Hednesford Town supporters that on the afternoon of SUNDAY 10 AUGUST at 2.00 pm Rushall Olympic Football Club's Dales Lane ground will be the venue for a benefit game that has been arranged in honour of Pics new assistant manager LEE WILLIAMS and will feature a Midland All-Star Team who will be taking on a Select XI chosen by the former Aston Villa, Mansfield Town, Cheltenham Town and Hednesford midfielder.
Pitmen supporters will recall that Lee arrived at Keys Park during summer 2004 from AFC Telford United and was part of the Hednesford side who won promotion to the Conference North. Upon being released by the Pitmen during March 2006 he saw out the remainder of the campaign with Stourport Swifts, prior to transferring to Halesowen Town during summer 2006.
Just after signing for Rushall back in November last year 34-year-old Lee, who also represented England at Youth level, sustained a horrific eye injury prior to the Christmas period that not only forced him to curtail his football career, but also severely affected his work due to him being self employed. However, kind hearted manager Paul Holleran has taken the step to help out his new No.2 by forming a benefit committee and arranging what should be a high profile game that will involve a number of Lee's former team mates. All Premiership and Football League clubs have also been approached in a bid to acquire some items that can either by raffled or auctioned off to raise significantly more funds on the day.
Arrangements are still currently being made for the game, but already Hednesford manager Dean Edwards and his Matt Elliott have both kindly agreed to take part in the game, in addition to former Pitmen favourites such as Chris Brindley, Mark Gayle, Lee Barrow, Martin O’Connor, Mark Cooper and Nick Amos.
A whole host of names from West Midlands football have also already agreed to play an active part on the day, including the likes of Keith Downing, Craig Shakespeare, Kevin Ashley, Gary Hackett, Paul Devlin, Chris Banks, Mark Yates, Neil Howarth, Julian Alsop, John Brough, Mark Cooper and Stuart Watkiss – while we are still awaiting a decision from several more former professionals.
Tickets for the game are priced at £5.00, while juniors under 12 years of age will be admitted free of charge when accompanied by a paying adult. A number of tickets have been supplied to Hednesford Town and will be available through the club, however anyone is more than welcome to turn up on the day and pay at the gate.
Thank you in anticipation of your support.
